Founded to advance the Alternative Energy Technology industry in Michigan, the NextEnergy Center supports alternative energy innovation by converging applications development within the automotive, electric power and defense industries, creating prime opportunities for technical advancement.
Kahn was commissioned to provide professional services to build out the laboratory wing of the NextEnergy Center, creating eight distinct laboratories for companies on the leading edge of alternative energy technology, including hydrogen fuel cell development, methanol reformation, synthetic fuel generation and bio-fuel research.
The National Biofuels Energy Laboratory was the first of the eight laboratories to be built-out. This 2,250 sq. ft. multi-functional space focuses on biofuels production and end-use technologies. The space is complete with a laboratory, office space for up to six technicians, a pilot plant for biodiesel production and a vehicle preparation and analysis area. The fully equipped fully-equipped wet lab that also features two walk-in and two bench-top fume hoods, office space for as many as six technicians, a pilot plant for biodiesel production, and a vehicle preparation and analysis area.
