Corktown Health Expands Stigma-Free Healthcare to Hazel Park, Michigan
When Corktown Health opens the doors to its second health center in southeastern Michigan early in 2025, they will be doing so much more than expanding their footprint in the health care community. They will be enhancing the scope of their worthy mission by bringing stigma-free healthcare to thousands of deserving individuals – particularly those in Michigan’s LGBTQ+ community - who otherwise might not receive it.
For that reason alone, the team at Albert Kahn Associates is deeply honored to be entrusted with the responsibility to make their dream a reality. “Every project is special in different ways” said Albert Kahn Associates President and CEO Kimberly Montague. “But this one really touches our hearts. To be selected as the architectural and engineering firm that will create this vital and important health center is a dream come true for us, too.”
The health center will be in Hazel Park, MI. The project consists of renovations and fit-out of an existing 17,500 square foot warehouse, unoccupied for approximately four years.
“In Albert Kahn Associates, we found a perfect partner. They understood and embraced our goal of replicating everything we’re currently offering at Corktown Health’s Detroit site at the Hazel Park location,” said Corktown Health President and CEO Anthony Williams. “This will make it easier to reach patients who might not otherwise be able to get to our Corktown Detroit center.”
“Anthony and his team are tireless advocates for this important cause. All of us at Albert Kahn Associates are dedicated to creating a dynamic, inclusive, and beautiful environment for the LGBTQ+ community and others,” said Albert Kahn Associates Corporate Director, Principal, and Senior Architect Andrew Stone.
At the recent groundbreaking ceremony held on June 14, 2024, the enthusiasm was contagious as dignitaries mingled with doctors, and neighbors and community members marveled at the renderings of the soon-to-be-completed site. Design elements include a two-story welcome lobby, a community space for meetings and gatherings, patient examination spaces, six chairs for dental services, administrative offices, a conference/meeting space, and outdoor seating options.
To accommodate the program, Kahn intends to utilize its expertise in both the healthcare and commercial market segments to ensure spaces are functional, efficient, well-designed, and above all comfortable.
“We’re on a mission, too,” said Montague. “Experience may guide this firm, but the passion of the people at Corktown Health reminds us of our commitment to the entire metropolitan Detroit community.”
Construction on the site is now underway with the opening of the Corktown Health Hazel Park Health Center slated for the first quarter of 2025.
