Berkshire eSupply's new headquarters and fulfillment center in Novi, Michigan embodies the company's commitment to employees and customers alike. This prototype campus provides an inspiring workplace while accommodating marketplace growth, with simplistic beauty, functionality, and attention to detail guiding every decision.

Site Selection

Site selection was critical for transporting materials and products, as well as for proximity to a skilled workforce. Located on 57 acres, the site includes 12 acres of natural wetlands and woodlands, a feature that shaped the design and gave the campus a distinct sense of place.

Headquarters Building

The curved façade of the headquarters building is sheathed in glass and Jerusalem limestone, reinforcing the brand identity Berkshire eSupply has established at its other locations worldwide. The three-level building's upper floors overlook the entry plaza and surrounding forest. A vertical spine ties the lower-level mechanical, electrical, and data center spaces to first-level visitor areas, product displays, and a training center, then opens up to second-level offices.

Fulfillment Center

The fulfillment center balances beauty with efficiency and function. A 400 x 50 ft. glass wall on one side floods the warehouse with natural light and frames views of the activity inside. From the plaza, employees enter an area with lockers, a kitchen, and rest areas. A second-level office above overlooks the warehouse floor, which includes high-density product storage, conveyors, and loading and order pickup zones. The scale, volume, and location of the site give Berkshire eSupply flexibility to adapt as access, distribution, and storage needs evolve.

Sustainable and Healthy Design

Low-e coatings, glass color, lighting, and mechanical systems work together to maintain comfort and support a healthier work environment. Interior lighting design exceeds code requirements by 39% in efficiency, and exterior lighting exceeds code by 77%. Daylight sensors adjust interior lighting throughout both buildings based on outdoor conditions, while outdoor fixtures dim by 50% between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Every fixture is dark sky compliant to protect surrounding wildlife.

As a prototype for future development, the Berkshire eSupply campus conveys the spirit and energy of a dynamic organization poised to transform its business around the world.
